Around the time your child turns 3, and when it is judged by their key person that they are equipped and prepared; we will begin their transition into pre-school. Here they’ll be surrounded by children who will usually, initially be a little older than themselves, but with whom they have become familiar throughout their time together at Sunshine.

Being in this new environment our children have the opportunity to learn lots of things from their new friends, having their development scaffolded by one another. Reegan, Charlotte and Amber provide a wide range of activities and resources to continue to promote learning and development, ensuring that your child is ‘school ready’ when the time comes for them to enter reception. Until then though, they’ll have an amazing time playing, exploring and growing with their friends in our resource rich indoor and outdoor environments.

Communication and acquisition of language remain our central focus within our pre-school room. We have a strong emphasis on being a kind and thoughtful member of our community, supporting children with their ever developing social and emotional skills. Our creative spaces are filled with interesting resources to promote and inspire imagination, and our outdoor area has lots to challenge physical development and promote teamwork.

We continue to work closely with our families to ensure that all information is shared and learning and progress continues at home, regularly sharing pictures, videos and updates of what we’ve been doing and learning about at Sunshine. We provide extra opportunities for practicing core skills including fine motor and handwriting, recognising letters and numerals, and early phonics, at an individualised level, targeted to each child’s readiness.
