At Sunshine we take a holistic approach to learning and child development; each of our rooms are filled with a wealth of resources, providing unlimited opportunities which allow children to grow, learn and develop in a safe, nurturing and welcoming environment. The purposefully resource filled surroundings allow for a good mix of child-led and structured play in a way that promotes imagination and independent thought through exploration.

Our Ethos: We don’t follow one specific approach to education but draw inspiration from a number of theorists and processes; tailoring them to our children, their interests and stages of development. It is our team that sets us apart, with their passion, knowledge and experience. We all work with the shared vision of equiping our children with Resilience, Ambition and Curiosity.

We draw strongly on the curiosity approach, as well as finding inspiration in aspects of forest schools and the teachings of Reggio Emilia. Children’s interests and play are at the centre of what we do; our team have combined over 190 years of experience in applying this approach to early learning and we have supported thousands of children and their families in the 34 years we have been open.

Each child at Sunshine has their own key person; a practitioner who makes it their duty to truly get to know your child, their interests and their personality. It is the job of each child’s key person to ensure that they are settled, happy and stimulated; to monitor their progress and work closely with parents to ensure that what we do at Sunshine complements and enriches the home routine.

Each child’s key person will take time to regularly observe and assess, building on their interests are encouraged and facilitated through plans made by their key person and supported by the rest of our team. Sunshine is a language rich environment, we understand the vital importance of giving children the ability to communicate and providing language is central to what we do.

We are passionate about creative play; we know that it isn’t always feasible to offer activities that can become very messy at home. We love the learning opportunities that these kinds of play and exploration can provide, and we understand and appreciate how they can facilitate co-operative play. We ask that children attend in clothes that you don’t mind getting a little bit messy or dirty and that they bring a spare set in the event that they need a change during their session.
